Thomas S. Laird began his banking career over 50 years ago, beginning with Security State Bank in Tyndall, SD, his hometown, in 1972. Thomas is a third-generation banker with his grandfather starting the bank in 1932. In 1994, Thomas succeeded his father, Donald B Laird, as President and is currently the bank’s CEO.

Thomas and John J Baumiller formed Midwest Bancshares in 2012, with a combined assets of $210 million. Security Bank is held by Midwest Bancshares, Inc.

Thomas graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in business and history. Thomas is married to Judy, and has two sons: Robert in New York, and John in Minneapolis. He is an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan. For hobbies, Tom enjoys reading, travel and private aviation – he is a private pilot with over 3000 hours of logged time.
