Since 1932, Security Bank has been serving the fine residents of South Dakota. Originally chartered in Tyndall and now serving Chancellor and Viborg, South Dakota, and Heron Lake and Jackson, Minnesota. We are a South Dakota, independently owned and managed organization.

Security Bank was built around small towns and good people. Our long history gives us a unique role in the places we call home. We have been here for the milestones and special moments, but mostly we have been here for the people who make our communities amazing. The bank moved to its current location in 1934 when it purchased the former First National Bank building located on Main Street. Security Bank is a third generation, family-owned bank. Byron R. Laird helped start the bank in 1932. His son, Donald B. Laird, purchased controlling interest in 1949, with Byron serving as president and Donald as vice president and cashier. Byron R. Laird served as president until his passing in 1952. Donald B. Laird was acting president from 1952 to 1994. Donald's son, Thomas S. Laird, began working at the bank in 1972 and has served as president since 1994. The bank building has undergone several expansions and renovations. Today, it is 5,600 SQ FT and offers convenient services such as drive-up, mail drop, and handicap accessibility.
